Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

JWOC2017.fi maintains high editorial standards and operates with transparency about our journalistic practices.

Editorial Independence

We operate independently of federations, sponsors, or commercial interests in orienteering. Editorial decisions are made based on newsworthiness, reader interest, and journalistic merit.

Sources and Attribution

  • We clearly attribute quotes, data, and information to their sources
  • Anonymous sources are used sparingly and only when necessary
  • Press releases and official statements are identified as such
  • Photo credits are provided for all images

Accuracy and Corrections

We strive for accuracy in all reporting. When errors occur:

  • Corrections are published promptly and prominently
  • We acknowledge mistakes clearly without burying corrections
  • Significant errors result in updated articles with correction notices
  • Readers can report errors via our feedback channels

Conflicts of Interest

Contributors disclose potential conflicts of interest, including:

  • Current or recent competitive relationships with athletes covered
  • Financial interests in companies or events covered
  • Personal relationships that might affect coverage objectivity

Opinion vs. Reporting

We clearly distinguish between news reporting and opinion content:

  • News articles strive for objectivity and balance
  • Opinion pieces reflect individual contributor views
  • Editorial commentary is clearly marked as such

Privacy and Sensitivity

We respect athlete privacy while serving the public interest:

  • Personal information unrelated to orienteering performance is generally not covered
  • We’re sensitive to mental health and injury-related topics
  • Junior athletes receive additional privacy protections

Comments and Community Standards

While we don’t currently host comments, any future community features will be moderated according to standards of respectful discourse and factual accuracy.
